Guadalupe Mountains National Park
Guadalupe Mountains National Park safeguards the world's finest example of a fossilized reef, a surprisingly complex and
unique assemblage of flora and fauna, and West Texas' only legally designated wilderness. Here, one can experience
solitude, tranquility, and the joy of finding plants and animals whose mastery of survival renews our sense of wonder.
As a hikers’ paradise, you will find more than 80 miles of trails that meander through woodland canyons and lush riparian
springs, or zigzag up steep switchbacks directly into the park’s rugged wilderness. Many trails are available for
horseback riding if you bring your own stock. The park is a wonderful place to look at fossils and learn about Permian
Age geology, enjoy bird watching and wildlife observation, delve into nature photography, or enjoy unlimited opportunities
for stargazing under pristine night skies.
Location: Guadalupe Mountains National Park is located in far West Texas on U.S. Highway 62/180. The driving distance is
110 miles east of El Paso, Texas, or 56 miles southwest of Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Big Thicket National Preserve
Strands of sun, soil, and air are woven into a beautifully connected patchwork of plants and animals. The last Ice Age
pushed plants from other parts of the country into a close neighborhood. An amazing diversity of plants and animals from
many parts of North America live in the Big Thicket region of southeastern Texas. Start your outdoor adventure at the Big
Thicket Visitor Center. Hands-on activities, state-of-the-art exhibits, interactive discovery center and many fantastic
displays guide you through the secrets hiding within the Big Thicket.
Location: Enter Beaumont, Texas, via Interstate 10 and then take U.S. Highway 69-287 north from Beaumont. Eight miles
north of Kountze, Texas, take FM 420 east and follow the signs to the visitor center.

Palo Alto Battlefield
On May 8, 1846 troops of the United States and Mexico clashed on the prairie of Palo Alto. The battle was the first in a
two-year long conflict that changed the map of North America. Palo Alto Battlefield National Historic Site preserves the
site of this notable battle and provides an understanding of the causes, events, and consequences of the first war between
independent Republics. The Park offers a ½ mile trail (1 mile round-trip) to an overlook of the battlefield, where visitor
will find interpretive panels. Those who cannot walk this distance may use an accessible road which will allow them to
enter the trail at a point closer to the overlook.
Location: Palo Alto Battlefield National Historic Site lies at the northeast corner of the intersection of FM 1847
(Paredes Line Road) and FM 511, approximately five miles north of downtown Brownsville, TX. From Rt. 77/83 take the FM 511
exit and drive east approximately two miles to reach FM 1847. The park visitor center is located on the east side of 1847,
1,000 feet north of the intersection.

Cavanaugh Flight Museum
The Cavanaugh Flight Museum is devoted to promoting aviation studies and
to perpetuating America's aviation heritage; the museum fulfills its mission by restoring, operating, maintaining and
displaying historically-significant, vintage aircraft, and by collecting materials related to the history of aviation.
The Museum offers lots of airplanes, artifacts and artwork, and rides are available in two distinctive warbirds, the N2S-4
Stearman and the AT-6 Texan. The rides make excellent gifts for any aviation enthusiast.
