Have you always wondered about the men who sailed to the bottom of the ocean in submarines? Did you wonder what it was like, how they lived, and what they
experienced? If so, then you should definitely visit Connecticut’s Submarine Force Museum. This museum will let you into the lives of the men who sailed on these ships
as well as the history of submarines. You can learn about the Bushnell’s Turtle that was used back in the Revolutionary days and all the other submarines up until the
modern day ones of the Ohio and Virginia classes. There are even three periscopes you can check out that actually work!
You will appreciate the films shown on submarine history, how they began and evolved until present day. You can even check out an interactive computer program to see
how submarines work! You will board the Nautilus and become a crewmember on this sub. You can walk the decks and imagine what it was like to actually sail below the
ocean. You can see where the crewmembers slept, ate, worked, and enjoyed their free time.
The museum is open during the summer from May 1 to October 31 from 9 am until 5 pm daily and on Tuesdays from 1 pm until 5 pm. The ship closes at 4:45 pm. The
museum is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Days.
