Winter Vacations & Unique Travel Spots
Terry Peak
Terry Peak Ski Area is positioned geographically to receive substantial snowfall through the winter months thanks to its
location in the Northern Black Hills, at elevations of 5,900-ft to over 7,000-ft. More snow falls on the Northern Black
Hills than anywhere else does in the region. It's common for snowfall predictions to exceed up to three times of what was
anticipated or to receive snowfall at 5,500-ft and higher when snow wasn't expected at all. It's important to remember we
can depend on winter fun at Terry Peak. Stay posted to our web site and live mountain cams for dependable surface and
weather conditions. Don't let the misconception of dry weather in Rapid City conclude that there's no snow up here.
Location: Located less than an hour from Rapid City via I-90, then U.S. Highway 85. The slopes are just minutes from the
historic towns of Lead and Deadwood.

Deer Mountain
Deer Mountain has it all when it comes to winter fun, skating, skiing, tubing and more. Deer Mountain is the only resort
in South Dakota with a snow skate park. Deer Mountain Ski Area will maintain a ‘snow skate only’ park in its base area.
The park is a series of boxes, rails, and tracks which riders slide across and balance on while executing tricks. Snow
skates are skateboard-like decks with a hard plastic base that slides directly on the snow. The base has grooves, or
channels, that help keep the snow skate going straight.
Location: We are located three miles from Lead, SD on Highway 85 South.
