Maryland - The National Aquarium

The National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland, is a wonderful place for the entire family. Don't let the word Aquarium fool you into thinking there is nothing to see but fish, believe me there are tons of other things to see besides fish, such as stingrays, snakes, frogs, toads, birds, crocodiles, and much more.

When I visited, I thought some of the most amazing things to see were the sharks, and the huge pool with the stingrays and the sea turtles in it. The Stingrays were great, but watching the large sea turtles swimming around was truly awesome.

Besides the great tanks of fish and other creatures, there are numerous exhibits, and some of these are truly outstanding, in fact one that sticks in my mind is a huge blue crab. It takes at least two hours just to look at the displays and to walk through the special habitat areas to see the majority of the fish, and other creatures, and this is really rushing it, and this does not include viewing any of the live shows, such as the dolphin show, etc. My Daughter and I visited the Aquarium and we were both very pleased with all of the beautiful displays and the special habitat areas.

There are some things that are housed in their own sections or areas of the building such as the tropical rainforest display and the Australian experience, not only are there real plants and such, but there are actual live lizards, frogs, snakes and turtles walking and moving around and birds flying about in the trees.

These are really amazing to see, as you literally walk through these areas experiencing the animals, sights and sounds just as if you were really in a rainforest or in Australia. If you get hungry, the Aquarium has a nice place to eat, and there is a great gift shop where you can by some nice gifts and reminders of your visit.

When visiting the National Aquarium in Baltimore, you should be prepared for some long lines and waiting times to get in, they say the best times to visit is on weekdays, when School is in session, as most of the local children and teens will be in School, and other people are at work.

My Daughter and myself took a good 3 hours looking at everything, and we still felt we could of spent a lot more time there. Make sure you take your digital camera or a cell phone that has a high quality camera built-in, because there are tons of fish and other creatures and exhibits that you will want to share with others as video clips or photos.
