Emporia Zoo
The purpose of the Emporia Zoo is the creation of an environment which provides an opportunity of cultural enrichment for
the community and surrounding area while fulfilling the Zoo's obligations to conservation, education and recreation.
Naturalized exhibits with a blend of native and exotic birds and animals presented in an area noted for extensive
landscaping and horticultural features.

Fort Larned National Historic Site
With nine beautifully restored buildings Fort Larned NHS gives you a chance to experience military life on the Santa Fe
Trail. Established on the vast prairie in western Kansas, troops stationed at Fort Larned protected mail coaches,
freighters and other Trail traffic. As the site of an Indian Agency, Fort Larned also was instrumental in maintaining
friendly relations with Plains Indians.
Location: Fort Larned NHS is six miles west of the town of Larned on Kansas Highway 156. The park is located just off the

Lee Richardson Zoo
The Lee Richardson Zoo is often referred to as an oasis on the plains. Occupying almost half of the 110-acre Finnup Park,
the zoo is a favorite gathering spot for nearly a quarter million visitors each year. The mission of the zoo is to instill
appreciation and encourage stewardship of the Earth's natural treasures through the exhibition, conservation and
interpretation of wildlife. The population of animals on display at the zoo provides an example of wildlife found
throughout the world. Over 145 species are represented within our facility, ranging from the elusive snow leopard to the
flashy and fancy flamingo.
Location: Located in Finnup Park at Fourth Street and Finnup Drive. From Hwy. 83/Main Street, take Finnup Drive (between
railroad tracks and Arkansas River bridge) east to Fourth Street. Garden City, KS
