Biscayne National Park
Some days, Biscayne Bay's shallow waters are glassy smooth, a window on another world. Other times, the wind whistles and
whips, creating white waves that bite like teeth at an angry sky. Some days are quiet and still, the silence broken only
by the sound of ocean ripples lapping at the mangrove-fringed shoreline, the exhalation of a manatee, or a crab scuttling
across the leaf-strewn forest floor. On weekends, the laughter of children, the sizzle of burgers on a grill, or the
"woosh" of water being cleared from a snorkel takes over. Some days, the water over the reef is so clear that every detail
on the bottom is visible, and zooming across it on a boat can seem like flying on air. Then there are blustery days when
it is milky with mud stirred up by wind and wave. Biscayne National Park is great for for watching wildlife, snorkeling,
boating, diving, fishing and other activities.

Tallahassee Museum
Whether the visitor simply wants to stroll through 52 acres of habitats, nature trails and historic structures or if they
choose to participate in an educational tour, they will absorb information that will help them to better understand their
relationship with history and nature. The Museum's live display of native species, several of which are no longer present
the wild, is the state's only zoological collection solely devoted to indigenous wildlife. The Museum's display of these
animals in their natural settings is very distinctive and has served as a model for other zoos around the nation. The
Tallahassee Museum is one of only three places in Florida where the state's official animal, the Florida panther is
displayed and its story told. The red wolf, another museum resident, is extinct in the wild. The Tallahassee Museum's
historical buildings include Bellevue, the 1840s plantation house and home of the great-grandniece of George Washington.
Bellevue is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is an excellent example of mid-19th century plantation
"cottage" architecture.
