Quinebaug & Shetucket Rivers Valley
This is a special kind of park. It embraces numerous towns, villages and a total population of about 300,000. Quinebaug &
Shetucket is not a traditional park. Instead, citizens, businesses, nonprofit cultural and environmental organizations,
local and state governments, and the National Park Service work together to preserve and celebrate the region's cultural,
historical and natural heritage. Living on earth for close to 14 million years, the majestic great blue heron species is
one of the tallest birds. It stands four feet, has a wingspan of six to seven feet and weighs five to eight pounds. The
best opportunity to see these birds is when they are feeding, both in the evening and during the day, but they are also
commonly seen flying overhead during spring and fall migration. Bird watching in the Quinebaug and Shetucket Rivers Valley
National Heritage Corridor is a great way to explore.

Mark Twain House & Museum
The Twain house - is defined mostly by the variety and unpredictability of its elements. No two elevations are alike;
generally symmetrical gables are, upon closer inspection, subtly different in their decorative treatments: various
chimneys and towers rise spontaneously in contrast to the calming, broad sweep of the deep porches and porte cochere.
The Museum - Visit our 2,000 - square - foot gallery with changing exhibits. You'll see rare manuscripts, photos, artifacts,
fine and decorative arts never before on display.
