Little River Canyon National Preserve


Little River is unique because it flows for most of its length atop Lookout Mountain in northeast Alabama. Forested uplands, waterfalls, canyon rims and bluffs, pools, boulders, and sandstone cliffs offer settings for a variety of recreational activities. Natural resources and cultural heritage come together to tell the story of the Preserve, a special place in the Southern Appalachians. U.S. Space & Rocket Center - Space Camp

The U.S. Space & Rocket Center is home to Space Camp, Aviation Challenge and NASA's Official Visitor Information Center for Marshall Space Flight Center. The U.S. Space & Rocket Center is recognized as one of the most comprehensive U.S. manned space flight hardware museums in the world; including Spacedome Theater, Rocket Park, Shuttle Park and NASA's Educator Resourse Center. Here visitors may trace the evolution of humankind's ventures into space and watch as tomorrow's potential engineers, scientists and astronauts train in one of the Space Camp or Aviation Challenge Programs.

Location: Direct interstate access from I-65 and I-565 in Huntsville, Alabama. The U.S. Space & Rocket Center is located at exit 15 off I-565. Huntsville, AL

Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum

Welcome to the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum, the official railroad museum of the state of Alabama. Our museum features operating standard gauge and narrow gauge trains, two restored depots, an indoor collection of railroad artifacts and memorabilia, and an outdoor collection of railroad cars, locomotives, and cabooses. The museum is dedicated to the preservation, restoration, and operation of historically significant railway equipment. Our exhibits, operating railroads, and educational programs function as both a unique means of tourism and recreation, and also a way to preserve the rich history of Alabama and our nation.

Location: Located just off I-65, 30 miles south of Birmingham, AL and 60 miles north of Montgomery, AL. 1919 Ninth Street in Calera, AL

Southern Museum of Flight

You will see the machines that helped the world take to the skies. Military, civilian, and home-built aircraft on display at the Museum include one of Delta Air Line's first planes - the Huff Daland crop duster, a full-size Wright Flyer replica, a 1912 Curtiss Pusher replica, a Fokker VII, a VariEze experimental home-built, and two US Air Force fighter jet cockpit simulators. The museum also has aviation memorabilia from the earliest days of flight - a night landing light used by the Wright brothers at their Montgomery flying school, knee-high aviator's boots from WW I, "trigger-finger" German-issue flying gloves from the WW I era of the Red Baron, an "Early Bird" cap and flying goggles, the trapeze and dental strap used in a local "flying circus," and more.
